Dear Friends,
First of all, it is with great pleasure to invite you to participate in the ˇ§10 th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communitiesˇ¨ to be held in this small city of southern China ˇV Macau. I am the President of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, the organizer of the Congress.
Founded in Year 1923, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau is the most long-standing nursing school in town. Throughout the years, it has been adhering to its educational philosophy of ˇ§From Personhood to Benevolenceˇ¨ and making tireless efforts to promote education of nursing care. In addition to organizing various courses and lectures, it actively develops scientific researches, explores the joint development of teaching, researches and social services, and seeks to make concrete contributions to enhancing public health and the well-beings of the community.
This year the College enters its 90 th anniversary. To commemorate this momentous occasion, a series of celebratory activities including academic conferences, publications, love giving activities, cocktail party and gala dinner will be organized between September 2012 and November 2013. The ˇ§10 th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communitiesˇ¨ is one of the key celebratory activities. Upon the recommendation and support of the Social Welfare Bureau of Macau SAR Government, this year the College serves as the Congress' organizer for the second time after having held the 4 th Congress in Year 2006.
I believe many of our old friends have been paying attention on our growth. Each and every spectacular scene of the 4 th Congress (held in Year 2006) still remains fresh in my memory. For the past years, we have been striving to tackle issues of an ageing society and enhancing long term elderly care, and have launched the Meta-programme ˇ§Benevolence Lights up my Later Lifeˇ¨. We know you are conducting researches and working hard on this all the same, and we are looking forward to your second visit to Macau to share and exchange your ideas with us. At the same time, we hope more new friends will join us and become part of the field.
The ˇ§10 th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communitiesˇ¨ is a multi-regional and cross-disciplinary conference, aiming at discussing long term elderly care from a number of perspectives. It is co-organized by four local higher education institutions and eight community associations of elderly education, researches and social services. The invited keynote speakers come from the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau, and so on. About 400 delegates including experts, scholars, medical and nursing practitioners, and elderly care personnel from across the straits are expected to come and participate in the Congress. Serving as a platform, we hope the Congress will bring together experts and scholars and stimulate discussions on long term care, and paint a clear picture of the operations of long term care institutions in Macau. Furthermore, we hope participants coming from different parts of the world will learn more about this small, yet multi-cultural and fascinating world heritage city.
Proceedings and collection of papers of the Congress will be produced and distributed so as to advance communication and exchanges with experts, scholars and front-line carers of the field, and offer more information about the development of elderly care services of Macau after its return to the Motherland.
