10th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities

Conference Theme: Ageing at Home –
Mobilizing Community Participation for Long Term Care of Elderly

 

Background:

Initiated by the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology and institutions of elderly services and researches of Taiwan and Shanghai, the 1st World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities was held in Hong Kong in Year 2002, aiming at promoting the development of long term care services in the Chinese communities and strengthening the academic exchanges and collaboration in the field. Throughout the years, the Congress has been held in different places including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China, and the 10th Congress is going to be held in Macau during 24 – 26 October 2013. The aim of this year’s Congress is to promote autonomy and empowerment of elder people by encouraging cross-disciplinary and cross-sector communities’ participation in long term care services.

 

Aims:

1.      To explore the mode of community’s participation in long term care services in Macau and other Chinese communities;

2.      Delegates from different regions to exchange experience in elderly care (home care and institutional care) and share the relevant research findings, and together explore the mode of retirement life and long term care services of the Chinese communities in different parts of the world;

3.      To strengthen collaboration and communication between elderly care institutions of different regions.


Keynote speakers:

It is with great pleasure that a number of renowned scholars in gerontology will attend the Congress as keynote speakers, including Director Iong Kong Io of Social Welfare Bureau of Macau SAR Government, Professor Lin Zhan of the University of Memphis of the United States, Professor Helen Bartlett of Monash University of Australia, China’s leading bioethicist Professor Qiu Renzong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies of Hong Kong Lingnan University and expert in sociology and gerontology Professor Chan Cheung-ming. In addition, experts of the member institutions (from across the straits) of the Association of Long Term Care in Chinese Communities will give some insightful talks.
