In July 2015, a total of 45 adolescent students from 6 higher education institutions and secondary schools, namely Honours College of the University of Macau, Keang Peng School, Kao Yip Middle School, Escola dos Moradores de Macau, Escola Luso-Chinesa Tecnico-Profissional and Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) were recruited for the Benevolence Youth Ambassador Training Programme. After the recruitment, KWNC Associate Professor Zeng Wen provided relevant training for the participants in terms of dementia knowledge and care techniques in order to train them to become the benevolence youth ambassador in promoting dementia in the community. The training was composed of four main areas, namely ˇ§Recognize Dementia at An Early Stage: Distinction between Normal Ageing and Dementiaˇ¨, ˇ§Prevention of Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Begins with the Fine-tuning of Daily Habitsˇ¨, ˇ§Effective Prevention Measures for Dementia: Guides on Daily Diet and Activitiesˇ¨ and ˇ§Home Life Care for Older Persons with Dementiaˇ¨. Different formats such as lecture and workshop were applied to the training. Through active discussion, students were able to express their own thoughts and the interaction among the participants was enhanced. In addition, case studies were applied to discussion which allowed students to gain an understanding of the caring techniques of dementia persons in real life.
